I am formerly a State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and I retired in early 2020 with a little over 40 years of service. It was a very rewarding career, and I felt very blessed with the privilege of serving the State of Texas for this long. My career in the Texas Highway Patrol was entirely spent patrolling in the Central Texas area.  In 1994 my duties changed when I transferred into what is now known as the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Service (formerly License & Weight Service). My new duties focused upon enforcing the State and Federal laws and regulations that affected the transportation industry.   I was trained by the Agency to monitor various facets of the industry affecting the movement of commercial vehicles upon highways and roads in the State.  This included the monitoring and enforcement of regulations involving size and weight, registration, vehicle equipment and loading, hours of service, cargo tank inspection, and hazardous materials transportation.  My training and certification for performing these duties included The North American Standard Roadside Inspection Program, Hazardous Materials, Cargo Tank Inspection, Bus Inspection, and Weight Enforcement. My area of patrol responsibility was a 13 county area with the Waco/Temple areas as its center of operations.

In 2004 I took on additional duties as a USDOT Certified Compliance Review Investigator.  It was then that I learned about the responsibilities of the "office side" of trucking while going into companies and conducting compliance reviews.  In 2009 DPS phased Troopers out of the Compliance Review Program, replacing them with civilian inspectors.  Again, I was blessed with this opportunity as I now had a much larger understanding of the requirements of keeping a fleet in compliance from the perspective of both roadside and office!
